In the first half of 2018, the Leppersdorf site sold the very first batch of a new product. It is neither yoghurt nor whey powder, but a completely different product: lime fertilizer.

The origin of this fertilizer lies in the process waste water and sewage treatment plant on the site, where it is discharged as calcium carbonate to prevent calcification of the coolers in the plant. It has now been possible to generate reusability and added value from this former waste product from the plant, which had to be disposed of for a fee.

This may sound like a special case at first, but it is anything but that - at least in the Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller. If you combine the numerous efforts and measures in the entire Group to optimize processes and products even more and to generate added value where possible, you will see an impressive list. The umbrella term for this economic approach is efficiency.

Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller is involved in efficient work in numerous areas. Whether in operations or administration, it is a driver that contributes to the success of our daily work and thus also to the success of the company at the end of the day. It is often based on a simple cost-benefit analysis, which we all know as the basis for our decisions. Efficiency also requires constantly questioning recognized processes and established procedures in order to be able to sound out possible improvements.   

For example, an in-house team in Leppersdorf coordinates suggestions for improvement from all employees at the site, checks, evaluates and awards prizes for selected measures. The innovation platform and think tank at the same time is the Müller Innovation Team, which regularly brings together colleagues from the entire Group world in order to leverage potential in the form of innovations.

Development concepts in the personnel area or effective IT systems can also be classified here. The best way to demonstrate the efficiency of UTM is probably the almost 100 percent recycling of milk as a raw material at the Leppersdorf site. In five production areas, basic and fresh products, cheese and powder and later even bioethanol are produced from milk.

Almost all divisions of the Group therefore come into contact with efficient management, with which the lime fertilizer extracted in Leppersdorf is no exception, but rather a rule of management in the Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller for the benefit of all employees.
