Yoghurt now also available in returnable jars from Aretsried: Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller launches new production facility

In Aretsried, Swabia – home to Molkerei Alois Müller GmbH, part of Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller – the new production facility for Landliebe-brand yoghurt in returnable glass jars was officially launched yesterday. The newly constructed production building, spanning around 4,900 square metres over two floors, houses all the equipment required for filling, sorting and cleaning returnable glass jars. The new facility expands yoghurt production capacity at the Aretsried site by around ten per cent, and the new production line provides up to 30 additional skilled jobs.

Cornelia Heiser, Managing Director of the Müller Germany business unit responsible for the Müller, Weihenstephan, Landliebe and Elinas brands, said: “Since acquiring the Landliebe brand just over three years ago, we have been working very successfully to help it regain its former strength. Landliebe yoghurt in a jar, with its almost iconic status among consumers, is a central element in this. We can now produce its entire portfolio on this state-of-the-art and highly efficient plant. With today’s commissioning, the brand has passed the next milestone in its fantastic development.”

The jar cleaning system made a truly “heavy” impression on the numerous guests of honour: it weighs in at a massive 218 tonnes – roughly the same as a fully loaded Airbus A330.

Maximilian Schick, Head of Factory Aretsried and responsible for production at the site: “First and foremost, we are all delighted that we were able to complete this project on schedule, as is customary here. This is no mean feat and speaks volumes about the impressive commitment of our internal project team as well as all the companies involved in the implementation. Just one of many examples of the project’s complexity is the three heat pumps installed. These provide around 620 kilowatts of heating capacity. This would be enough to heat just under 100 detached houses for a year, whilst at the same time saving around 810 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.”

In total, Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller has invested a three-figure million sum in the Aretsried site over the past ten years, including in a new high-bay warehouse, an extension to the administration building and now the new production building. Once again, the company has continued its tradition of commissioning local firms wherever possible.
